Well the site is finally up and hopefully running without too many bugs.
This site was designed with CodeIgniter by Ellis Lab. It's a fantastic php framework. If you are looking for a php framework give it a try, you won't be disappointed. It has the best documentation, the best community and in my opinion is the best of the frameworks. You can get started quickly and has a lot of power and flexibility that I just didn't see in other frameworks I looked at. There is a lot of competition in php frameworks and two important things to look for are whether you have good docs and a good community. CI's docs were superior to any other framework I looked at. There community is not just the best for php frameworks, I believe its the best community out there period! Whenever I posted with a question I had several answers almost immediately. The answers were always intelligent and helpful even to some of the basic questions I asked. So check it out!
I also made use of jQuery by John Resig to handle most of my javascript needs. It really makes javascript easy to program, what would normally take a dozen lines or more of code can be completed with a single line of code and you know it will work fine in all browsers. In addition to jQuery, These are the jquery plugins I made use of.
For handling form interaction: jQuery Form Plugin.
For displaying the screenshots: fancybox by: Janis Skarnelis.
For displaying the dialog messages: Humanized messages by Michael Heilemann.
For easing options: jQuery Easing by: George McGinley Smith
For ie6 png transparency fix: jQuery pngFix by: Andreas Eberhard
For parsing metadata from elements: jQuery MetaData by: John Resig, Yehuda Katz, Jörn Zaefferer, Paul McLanahan
For autocomplete: jQuery/CI autocomplete modified by nm-web for CodeIgniter.
In addition I used these two javascript helpers.
For rounded corners: Nifty Corners Cube by Alessandro Fulciniti
For the star rater: AJAX Star Rating by Ulyses
All of the javascript plugins are fantastic and I did a lot of research to come up with what I thought would work best. Give any of the above a try if you need the functionality. I just couldn't have done the work that all of these provide. Thanks to all of the programmers for making there plugins available.
I also had one additional css fix for IE png transparency by Rogie.
For development I made use of Textmate, CSS Edit, Coda and Things. All are wonderful tools for planning or developing web applications.
Finally a big thanks to Apple for making the iPhone, opening it up to developers and great computers in general!
P.S. I am sure I forgot to thank some other resources I used in developing this site, if I missed you drop me a line and I will add you in.
